An earthquake measuring 6.0 on the Richter scale rocked North Sumatra on Saturday morning but there was no immediate report of casualties or material damage. The epicenter of the quake which struck at 09.11 a.m. was in the sea 18 km northwest of Panyabungan district in North Sumatra at a depth of 10 km, spokesman for the Pekanbaru meteorology, climatology and geophysics office Warih said. "There will likely be several aftershocks of lower intensity," ANTARA quoted Warih as saying said. The quake was also felt by people living in neighboring Riau province. Indonesia sits on the Pacific "Ring of Fire" where the meeting of continental plates causes high volcanic and seismic activity.
