An earthquake measuring 5.0 on the Richter scale hit North Sulawesi province on Sunday at 6.42 am Western Indonesian Standard Time (WIB). The Jakarta meteorological, climatology and geophysics office (BMKG) said that the temblor's epicenter located 4.04 northern latitude and 126.96 eastern longitude, around 143 km northeast of Melonguane, North Sulawesi. There was no immediate report of damages. "The quake at a depth of 10 km was not significant enough to trigger a tsunami," ANTARA quoted BMKG as saying. On July 16, North Sulawesi was also jolted by magnitude-5.0 earthquake. Indonesia is prone to seismic upheaval due to its location on the so-called Pacific "Ring of Fire", and arch of volcanoes and fault lines encircling the Pacific Basin.
