At least 12 people were dead and 19 were missing after two landslides buried 16 homes in northwest China's Shaanxi Province and Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, local authorities said on Wednesday. The landslide in Shaanxi, which occurred at 1:30 a.m. Wednesday, buried 44 villagers in 15 homes in Zizhou county of Yulin city, Xinhua quoted a spokesman with the provincial government as saying. As of 3 p.m., 25 villagers had been rescued, but nine were confirmed dead at the scene or died at hospital. Ten people with slight injuries had been discharged from hospital, while six others, who were still receiving treatment, were out of danger, said the spokesman. Rescue efforts are continuing. Another landslide in Xinjiang occurred at 8:30 p.m. Tuesday in Kazak Autonomous Prefecture of Ili. The landslide buried one home and three people died at the scene.
