Heavy rains continued Friday in Spain, prompting the evacuation of dozens of people from their homes in the south of the country, emergency services said. Rains severed road or rail links and inundated homes, basements and garages, dpa reported. Nearly 50 people were evacuated preventatively in Jerez and Arcos de la Frontera in Cadiz province. Flights to and from Jerez were cancelled or deviated elsewhere after flooding forced the closure of the airport. Electricity was re-established all over the Canary Island of Tenerife after all of the 1 million residents had been left without power temporarily on Thursday. On the island of El Hierro, however, power cuts continued affecting about 700 people. A rockslide closed a road connecting the Spanish enclave of Ceuta on the North African coast with Morocco.
