The six-nation Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) held here on Sunday the 9th meeting of the Committee, which is assigned to consider the GCC Customs Law. A press release of the GCC General Secretariat said the Committee's four-day deliberations will focus on common customs procedures of the GCC countries, including regulations on fees on "transit" goods. The meeting will also tackle the amended Kyoto international convention on the simplification and harmonization of customs procedures, under the World Customs Organization (WCO), which the GCC states joined recently. In addition, it will discuss the United Arab Emirate's proposal on documents provided for imported goods and utilization of latest technology in this context. Moreover, the proposal addresses a demand by the WCO that all customs bodies adhere to international secure shipping standards so that goods could be effectively inspected for any hazardous content while en route through member states. The GCC is made up of Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Kuwait, Qatar, Bahrain and Oman.
