A man today stabbed six people at a firefighters training school in a Rome suburb, before running down another four with a car as he attempted to flee, dpa quoted officials as saying. Several of those injured were hospitalized, with one woman, who was cut in the throat, in a serious condition, a spokeswoman for Italy's firefighters department, Clara Modesto, told the German Press Agency dpa. The alleged assailant, identified in news reports as 41-year-old Gabriele Mancini, was arrested by police shortly after the late morning attack at the training school situated in Capanelle, south-east of central Rome. The motive behind the attack was not immediately clear. According to witnesses, Mancini allegedly stabbed the four men and two women, in a sudden fit of rage. The suspect had been recently employed at the training school. Mancini faces several charges of attempted murder, according to judicial officials who are evaluating whether to place him under psychiatric observation.
