Niger's President of Mamadou Tandja, has received the visiting delegation of the Organization of Islamic Conference (OIC) headed by Ambassador Mahdy Fathallah, Director General for Political Affairs, at his office in Niamey. The delegation, which was on a fact-finding mission related to the current political situation in the country, delivered a message from the OIC Secretary General, Prof Ekmeleddin Ihsanoglu to President Tandja, according to a press release of OIC issued in Jeddah yesterday. During the meeting, the delegation reiterated the commitment of the OIC to implement its development and humanitarian programme aimed at boosting food security in Niger. It, however stressed the need for dialogue and compromise by all the stakeholders in order to reach a negotiated settlement out of the difficult political situation facing the country. During its three day visit, the delegation also met and exchanged views with the President of the National Assembly; the Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation; the Minister of Religious and Humanitarian Affairs as well as leaders of the opposition.
