U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton said Wednesday she will shorten a trip to Asia because of the “horrific” situation in Haiti following a massive earthquake. Clinton, who earlier spoke by telephone with President Barack Obama, told reporters in Honolulu, Hawaii she still plans to visit Papua New Guinea, New Zealand, and Australia but would try to return to Washington earlier than originally planned. “We are going to give the people of Haiti the support they need,” Clinton said. “The situation is horrific.” She said Obama “agreed that I should go on with the [Asia] trip but we should try to figure out how we can appropriately shorten it.”
