Kenyan police arrested a Dutch tourist on Tuesday who tried to take his own life after the decomposing body of his girlfriend was found in their house, according to Reuters. Mombasa police chief Tom Odero said the man stabbed himself in the chest after officers arrived at the home in the town"s Vescon Estate, where residents had alerted them to a bad smell. "The suspect and the deceased lived in the rented house for just about a month and, according to reports, they were always involved in heated arguments," Odero told Reuters. The couple had last been seen by neighbours on Saturday. "Since then, the caretaker realized that it was only the suspect who had been going in and out of the house, and making sure it was locked all the time. Little did they know there was a decomposing body on the floor of the sitting room." Odero said the Dutchman, who he did not name, was being treated in hospital but was out of danger. He said he would soon appear in court charged with murder and attempted suicide. Trying to commit suicide is illegal in the east African nation.
