United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon on Wednesday condemned the attack on a guesthouse in Kabul that killed five U.N. staff members. Gunmen opened fire outside the gates of the guesthouse at about 6.30 in the morning local time and forced their way inside killing workers as they were fleeing, a U.N. spokesperson in Kabul said. “I condemn in the strongest possible terms the despicable and brutal killing, for which the Taleban has claimed responsibility in an apparent effort to disrupt the second round of the presidential election,” Ban said in a statement. “This indeed is a loss to all members of the U.N. family working together to support Afghanistan at this critical juncture. The United Nations remains committed to continue its work in the country as the Afghan people strive for a better future,” his statement added --SPA
