Saudi Embassy in Pakistan said in a press statement today that the security authorities in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia has released five Pakistani citizens who were detained at King Abdulaziz International Airport in Jeddah on 09/06/1430 H. for their connection with the attempt of smuggling drugs into the Kingdom. The investigations showed that they have no connection with such smuggled substances and therefore they were released, the Saudi Embassy said. The Head of Information Section at the Saudi Embassy said that following the meeting held between visiting Pakistani Interior Minister Rehman Malik and officials of Saudi Interior Ministry, the Saudi security authorities reviewed the results of investigation conducted by the Pakistani security agencies and then the Pakistani citizens involved were released. After their release, they were allowed to perform Umrah and visit the Prophet's Mosque, he added. The Saudi Embassy urged all passengers travelling to the Kingdom to make sure that their luggage does not contain any material, particularly narcotics. According to the regulations in force in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, the transfer of narcotics into the Kingdom is punished by the death penalty, the statement said.
