An earthquake measuring 5.5 on the Richter scale shook Sukabumi, West Java, on Monday at 7.26 am local time, ANTARA reported. The earthquake's epicenter was located at 8.17 degrees southern latitude, 107.23 degrees eastern longitude, about 143 kilometers southeast of Sukabumi, West Java, and at a depth of 10 km below sea level, information from the National Meteorological, Climatology, and Geophysics (BMKG) office said here on Monday. The temblor did not have potential to trigger a subsequent tsunami the BMKG office said. Indonesia, the world's largest archipelago, sits on the Pacific "Ring of Fire," the edge of a tectonic plate prone to seismic upheaval.
