A two-day conference on partnership between the world's Red Cross and Red Crescent societies opened in Amman Saturday to discuss the repercussions of the global financial crisis on humanitarian activities, according to dpa. Chairman of the Permanent Commission of the Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies, Mohammad al-Hadid, stressed the need to address the effects of the global recession on the humanitarian activities in such a manner that "ensures the continuation of humanitarian aid to the needy people throughout the world". Al-Hadid, who doubles as President of Jordan's Red Crescent Society, expressed hope that the conferees would come up with a "resolution that commits donors to deal with the world economic crisis in a way that meets the needs of those who have been affected by the downturn".
