The United Arab Emirates (UAE) has renewed its commitment to implement long-term aid programs and relief projects in countries hit by natural disasters and armed conflicts in cooperation and coordination with the United Nations. Anwar Osman Barot, Deputy Permanent Representative of UAE in United Nations made this commitment during the Special meeting of the UN General Assembly that discussed ways to coordinate the humanitarian assistance provided by the World body to the affected countries. The recent reports of UN Secretary-General pointed out that the challenges facing the United Nations in the field of humanitarian assistance have multiplied dramatically over the past few years due to the increase of natural disasters resulting from climate change and displacement of people as a result of armed conflict. Besides, the global financial crisis and food crisis also led to decline in national and international response to provide relief. The UAE official stressed the need to redouble the efforts of the United Nations and its concerned partners to meet the growing humanitarian needs and the provision of financial and human resources necessary to enable it carry out its responsibilities which requires strengthening the cooperation of all countries with the UN by every possible mean, according to a report of the UAE news agency "WAM". "We recognize that international partnership and cooperation with the UN are the most successful methods to achieve best results for humanitarian activities in the world, subsequently we are keen to coordinate many of our initiatives and contributions with the relevant United Nations agencies in implementing emergency relief and long-term projects in countries affected by natural disasters and armed conflict", he affirmed. "It is through our membership in the Donor Community for UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA), that we contributed towards UN work to achieve maximum efficiency in the field of humanitarian activities", he added.
