At least 16 people died Saturday in southeastern China after a truck hit a road maintenance vehicle from behind, sending it off a bridge, police and a news report said. The maintenance vehicle was carrying 25 people when it was hit on an expressway in Jiangxi's Suichuan county, the official Xinhua News Agency said. Fourteen people died on the scene and two died at a hospital, a woman from the Jiangxi provincial traffic police said. She did not give her name. Xinhua said rescue work was under way. There was no word on injuries. It said the maintenance vehicle belonged to the highway administration of the Jiangxi Communications Department, and the truck was from central Henan province.
