The White House on Tuesday worked to reiterate their commitment to seeking peace in the Middle East. In response to a reporter's question, White House Press Secretary Robert Gibbs said that the United States is strongly committed to reaching sustainable peace between the Israelis and Palestinians. Gibbs' comments came in the midst of a round of high-level U.S. visits to the region. U.S. President Barack Obama's top Mideast envoy, George Mitchell, wrapped up a new swing through the area on Tuesday, announcing “progress” in his attempts to resolve the settlement dispute but with no word of a breakthrough. The trips show that with “that level of participation,” Obama is showing his “commitment…to make progress on peace in the Middle East,” Gibbs said.
