Three soldiers have been killed in separate incidents in Afghanistan, Reuters cited the Ministry of Defence as saying today, bringing this month's death toll to 10 in 10 days. The latest fatalities mean 179 British soldiers have now died since the Afghan conflict began in 2001, as many as died during the war in Iraq. The first soldier from the 4th Battalion The Rifles died in an explosion while on foot patrol near Nad Ali in the southern Helmand province on Thursday. The second, from the Princess of Wales's Royal Regiment attached to the 1st Battalion Welsh Guards, was killed by a gunshot wound he suffered while taking part in a major U.S.-led operation against the Taliban in Helmand on Thursday. The third was a soldier from the 2nd Royal Tank Regiment, who was killed by an explosion during an operation near Nad Ali, in central Helmand province on Friday morning.
