Saudi newspapers commented editorially today on a number of local, regional and international topics. The Makkah-based Al-Nadwa under the title of 'the Kingdom supports Lebanon and its people', said the cabinet at its meeting yesterday welcomed the election of Nabih Barri as the Speaker of the Lebanese Council of Deputies, and lauded the assigning of Saad Al-Hariri as Prime Minister. This development embodies the keenness of the Kingdom on prevalence of security and stability in Lebanon and enabling the Lebanese people to positively contribute to the development and progress of their country, the daily noted. The paper pointed out that the recent parliamentary elections held in Lebanon have reflected the public opinion. Moreover, Saad al-Hariri, who has been assigned to form the new government in Lebanon, has stressed the significance of the national reconciliation. Highlighting the support extended by the Kingdom to Lebanon, the daily said that it is not a strange matter because the Kingdom had earlier contributed to ending the civil war in Lebanon by convening Taif conference which laid the foundation for the political process in the country. "Moreover the Kingdom unwaveringly extended support to Lebanon during the war launched by Israel three years ago to destroy the country's infrastructure projects," said the daily adding that King Abdullah Bin Abdulaziz presented an initiative to support the Lebanese economy. The Kingdom is keen on stability of Lebanon and it optimistically views the steps so far taken in the country, and it thinks that these steps will help Lebanon to practice its normal role in the region and in the world too. --MORE
