Moroccan customs agents have seized 1.77 tons of hashish in the north of the country that had been headed to Europe, AP reported. The official MAP news agency says the drugs were found wrapped in parcels inside a deep-freeze fish factory near Nador, 300 kilometers (185 miles) northeast of the capital, Rabat. The factory's owner, a Spaniard, has been detained. The agency quotes local customs chief Chafik Essalouh as saying that the drugs seized late Wednesday were headed to Belgium. MAP says the find comes only days after police seized 19.5 tons of hashish hidden on a truck carrying frozen calamari. Morocco has vowed to crack down on trafficking.
