Four of a Chinese family died from gas poisoning in their rented house and one was still receiving treatment, Xinhua quoted hospital sources as saying today. The family of five people in Zhangjiazai Village, Zizhou County, Shaanxi Province, was found all in coma at around 10 a.m. Saturday by the house owner Ren Zhilian. Ren said she immediately dialed an emergency call to the Zizhou County People's Hospital. Medical staff said they confirmed four of them had died and only a 13-year-old girl was still alive after they arrived. The only survivor is receiving treatment in the Yulin City No. 1 Hospital. Hospital sources said the girl was in stable condition. They said an investigation showed carbon monoxide poisoning caused the tragedy. But where the carbon monoxide came from remained unclear.
