Joint Meeting of Cooperative Societies planned for Riyadh City

The Ministry of Social Affairs will organize the first joint meeting of Cooperative Societies from May 26-28 in Riyadh.
The cooperative movement began early in 1382 AH. Dereyah Governorate witnessed the foundation of the first ever cooperative Society and another one came into being in Qurayat. Now the number of cooperative societies in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia amounts to 160. Of these 126 are multi-purpose cooperative societies while the number of agricultural cooperatives reached 26 societies in addition to 3 consumer cooperative societies. In addition, there are 3 fisheries societies and one each for occupational, marketing and housing.
A society commences its activities by money collection for its project implementation and management. It plays an important role in stabilizing the prices as well as provision of food supplies at reasonable prices.
