For the Third year, King Fahd University of Petroleum and Mineral KFUPM will organize on Thursday in cooperation with STC (Saudi Telecommunication Company) the second and final stages of Mathematics Olympiad. In the past years (2006- 2008), the university organized the first Mathematics Olympiad for the high schools students in the Eastern Province only. The second Olympiad was held for all high schools students throughout the kingdom at three centers in Dhahran, Riyadh and Jeddah. The third Olympiad was held at six centers across the Kingdom in Dhahran, Riyadh, Jeddah, Abha, Al-Qassim, and Madinah. The winners of the second stage with the highest scores of the Olympiad were honored at the university. Dr. Husain Salim Al Attas, Chairman of the Organizing Committee said the students qualified for the second stages are 114 students, pointing out that the second stage will be held in seven centers covering most areas of the Saudi Arabia. These are in Dhahran at King Fahd University, Riyadh Center at Kingdom Schools, Jeddah center at Dar-Al theker, Al Ahsa center at AlKefah Private Schools, Qassim Center at The Blind institute-Buraidah, Al Madinah center at Al Ansar High School) and Abha at Al Faisal High School. On the other hand, the Chairman of Media and financial Committee Dr. Khalid Al Shamari said the second stage called (KFUPM-MO4 stage 2 ) provide written questions in 6 mathematical majors mainly algebra, geometry, the theory of numbers, permutations and combinations. The exams take 5-hours session divided into two stages called KFUPM-MO4 stage 1 and KFUPM-MO4 stage 2. The Olympiad winners will be the top 10 students who scored the highest grades in the second stage of the Olympiad.
