The final round of King Fahad University of Petroleum & Minerals's (KFUPM-MO) Mathematics Olympiad for this year has been scheduled for Thursday. The final round will take place in six examination centers throughout the Kingdom, with the participation of 124 contesting students from 14 countries. The examinations will be held at KFUPM's venues in Dhahran, Riyadh, Jeddah, Abha, Madina and Qasim. More than 2,000 students took part in the first round of the competition, held on March 6 in the same examination centers. The rules say that no more than 200 participants can be selected to qualify for the final round. Among the participants in this year's competition is one American student, one German and several from India, Pakistan and Bangladesh. The examinations are in Arabic and English. Out of the 124 students who qualified for the final round, only ten will be named winners. They will receive several awards, including cash. The result of the examination will be announced shortly after the examination on Thursday, according to Saleh Al-Shaiban, media relations officer at KFUPM. The awarding ceremony for the top 10 winners will be held at KFUPM on May 3. Last year's winner was a Japanese high school student living in Jeddah.The prizes are as follows: First prize: gold medal, SR20,000 and a certificate Second prize: silver medal, SR15,000 and a certificate Third prize: bronze medal, SR10,000 and a certificate Fourth to sixth places: SR8,000 each plus certificates Seventh to tenth places: SR5,000 each plus certificates. The 11th to the 13th places will also get awards.The Mathematics Olympiad is a project of KFUPM's that started three years ago. It is the only official national mathematics contest in the country recognized by the International Mathematics Olympiad. __
