Sheikh chairs 1st working session of General Conference of SCIA in Cairo Cairo, March 06, SPA -- The General Conference of the Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs ( SCIA) resumed its deliberations here on Thursday by holding the 1st working session which was chaired by Saudi Minister of Islamic affairs, endowments, call and guidance Sheikh Salih Al Alsheikh. At the opening session, Dr. Al Alsheikh expressed appreciation for the Egyptian government, represented by the Ministry of Endowments, for hosting this conference which is due to discuss a number of important topics including the renewal of the Islamic thought. Al Alsheikh noted that "our current crises reflect the weakness of a lot of the Islamic institutions, even the educational institutions'. He emphasized that there is no place in this contemporary world for the weak people, or either for the isolated or spiteful people, but it is the time for the reformers and scholars who lead the Ummah (Nation) towards the proper way and a bright future. Meanwhile, a number of working papers pertaining to the renewal of the Islamic thought were discussed at the session.
