Russian President Dmitry Medvedev arrived in Brazil for an official visit on Monday night, local time. The Russian leader's plane landed at a military airbase in Rio de Janeiro, Itar-Tass reported. The central event during the visit will be Medvedev's talks with Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva in narrow and broader formats, and the signing of a number of agreements. The two presidents are to touch upon a wide range of subjects, including the peaceful uses of outer space, energy, including nuclear power engineering, the oil and gas sector, modern technologies, and agriculture. The Russian President is also to visit the headquarters of the major state-run oil and gas company PetroBraz, and meet with members of the Brazilian business community. The executives of state-run and private companies operating in the fields of energy, mining, agribusiness, and banking sector will take part in the meeting with Medvedev. On the eve of the visit, the President of Brazil told Russian news agencies in an exclusive interview, "The meeting with Dmitry Medvedev is a good opportunity to improve our cooperation on the international agenda issues, mainly as concerns the financial crisis that is gathering pace.”
