ON-DON, Russia, November 23, SPA--Rebels have launched attacks in Chechnya and a neighboring province, killing five police officers and two civilians, Russian officials said Sunday, according to AP. The regional branch of Russia's Interior Ministry said three policemen died when rebels detonated a radio-controlled land mine early Sunday in the village of Sadovyi near the provincial capital, Grozny. The blast also killed a civilian, and wounded four policemen and four local residents, it said. Another police officer was killed late Saturday by rebels who ambushed his vehicle near the southern village of Gekhi. In the province of Ingushetia, west of Chechnya, an unidentified gunman shot and killed a police officer when he visited a grocery store late Sunday, the regional Interior Ministry's office said. In earlier incidents gunmen fired at local police headquarters and raided an outdoor cafe in the city of Nazran late Saturday, killing a cafe worker, the regional Interior Ministry's office said.
