The Arab Gulf Program for United Nations Development Organizations (AGFUND) announced here today the laureates of its $500,000 worth of international prize for projects aiming at combating sight handicap, and announcing bringing to four from three the number of the prize's branches, effective next year. This came during the 10th meeting of AGFUND Prize Committee presided over by AGFUND's Chairman of the Board of Directors Prince Talal bin Abdulaziz. Among 35 projects from 24 countries, the project on the "sustainable control on river blindness", designed by HKI, won the first prize; "an example for integration and self-reliance in eye care", implemented by Egypt-based Al-Noor Charity, was awarded the second prize; and "Al-Shifa (Cure) Eye Trust project", implemented in Pakistan by General Dan Khan, was given the third prize. Next year's prize theme will be the "development of means of agriculture through technology".
