Visiting Austrian President Heinz Fischer on Monday discussed with Jordanian Prime Minister Nader Dahabi the prospects of boosting bilateral ties particularly in the economic and environmental fields, the official Petra news agency reported, according to dpa. At the meeting, officials from the two countries signed an accord for cooperation in the field of environmental protection, it said. Fischer, who arrived in Amman on Sunday for a three-day state visit, also inaugurated on Monday the Jordanian-Austrian Economic Forum which seeks to boost bilateral cooperation. The gathering, attended by at least 20 Austrian firms and leading Jordanian businesses, will seek to set up partnerships between the private sectors in the two countries for possible joint ventures in the fields of alternative energy, railways, tourism, infrastructure and other spheres, Petra said. Fischer attended the signing of an agreement between the Federation of Austrian Chambers of Commerce and the Amman Chamber of Industry and the Jordan Chamber of Commerce to promote investment deals. The Austrian president also made separate visits to the two houses of the Jordanian parliament, where he discussed the prospects of parliamentary cooperation between the two countries.
