Five fishermen were killed in an eastern Philippine town when the improvised explosives they were making blew up, DPA quoted a provincial police chief as saying today. The incident occurred late Saturday in Balud town in Masbate province, 375 kilometers south-east of Manila, according to Senior Superintendent Reuben Theodore Sindac. Sindac said the victims planning to use the explosives in illegal fishing, which is rampant in the area. Two of the fishermen died on the spot and the third succumbed in a nearby hospital.
