United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon and the Security Council issued statements on Wednesday condemning the bombing of the U.S. embassy in Yemen. “I am saddened by the reported deaths of at least 16 people, including Yemeni guards and civilians outside the embassy, as well as the wounding of many others in this attack,” said Ban in statement issued by his spokesperson's office. The embassy, located in Yemen's capital city Sana'a, was attacked by a car bombing and rocket fire that resulted in the deaths of 16 people, including four attackers. All the victims were Yemeni with the exception of an Indian woman who was passing by the embassy at the time of the attack. “I call on the Yemeni authorities to spare no effort in bringing those responsible to justice,” the statement from Ban's office continued. The Security Council also issued a statement condemning the bombing. “The members of the Security Council underlined the need to bring perpetrators, organizers, financiers, and sponsors of this reprehensible act of terrorism to justice, commend the commitment of the government of Yemen to this end and urged all states…to cooperate actively with the Yemeni authorities in this regard,” the statement said.
