The African Union (AU) has welcomed the formation of the Arab ministerial committee under the chairmanship of Qatar's Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Sheikh Hamad bin Jassem Al-Thani to resolve Darfur crisis as soon as possible. In a statement issued at its headquarters in Addis Ababa yesterday, the Union expressed hope that the committee would contribute to establish peace in Darfur through coordinating with the joint UN-African Union mission in Darfur. In the meantime, the African Union pledged to coordinate the Arab-African joint cooperation and to bolster the solidarity between the two sides in all fields in order to achieve the desired goals in the joint issues especially the establishment of peace in Darfur. Commissioner for Peace and Security at the African Union Ramadan Al-Amamra praised the Qatari initiative which was adopted by the Arab League to resolve Darfur crisis. Al-Amamra stressed the importance of the initiative and underlined the African Union's full support to ensure success to it, according to a report of QNA (Qatar News Agency).
