An African Union /AU/ delegation will arrive Sunday in Darfur, in western Sudan, on a three-day visit to inspect and assess humanitarian conditions in the region, a statement by the AU said on Saturday. The delegation will assess the humanitarian situation on the ground and the progress achieved as a result of the AU's efforts to alleviate the sufferings of displaced people, Middle East News Agency reported from Addis Ababa. The AU's political affairs commissioner will head the delegation, which will include the chairman of the union's refugees committee. The mission will follow up the outcome of AU Commission President Alpha Oumar Konare's visit to Darfur for the same purpose in June. The delegation will head to Darfur after arrival first in Khartoum for talks with officials of local authorities and humanitarian relief agencies in addition to the AU's observers there.
