The Dubai International Holy Quran's Islamic personality of the year has been awarded not to a personality, but to an organisation - the King Fahd Complex based in Madinah, for publishing the Holy Quran. The award was announced in a ceremony held at the Cultural and Scientific Association in Mamzar on Thursday, according to a report published today by Gulf News. The winner gets a Dh 1 million reward for contributions and achievements in the Islamic world. The Dubai International Holy Quran Award is now its 12th year and is held under the patronage of Shaikh Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai. Eighty-five contestants from different countries participated in the prestigious Quran recitation competition this year. This is the second time that an organisation has been awarded this honour. Earlier, Al Azhar won it in the sixth year, the English newspaper reported.
