Directors General of customs departments in the GCC member states started here today their 37th meeting. Speaking on the occasion, Ahmad Ali al-Mohannadi, the head of the general commission of customs and ports in Qatar, highlighted the achievements attained as regards the custom union and the new customs law as well as the unified custom tariffs and custom procedures. He noted that the swift changes and developments have paved the way for updating the custom systems. The participants of the meeting are scheduled to review a number of topics including issues pertaining to the GCC membership in the international customs organization. The recommendations of the meeting will be submitted to the GCC financial and economic cooperation committee at its meeting due to be held on September 17-18, 2008.
