President George W. Bush will meet with visiting President Martin Torrijos of Panama next month, the White House announced Thursday. “Panama is an important friend and ally of the United States,” the White House said in a statement. At the September 17 meeting, Bush “looks forward to discussing a range of issues with President Torrijos, including … expanding free trade and strengthening democracy throughout the region, enhancing security cooperation, and strengthening cooperation in international fora,” the statement said. “This visit, following President Torrijos' visit last May, underscores the ongoing deep friendship and cooperation between the United States and Panama,” the White House wrote.
