The White House on Wednesday condemned terrorist attacks in Algeria, saying they were committed by “criminals and thugs” and pledging to support counter-terrorism efforts. “The United States condemns the recent terrorist attacks in Algeria, the most recent ones today and yesterday,” national security spokesman Gordon Johndroe told reporters traveling with President George W. Bush to Florida. “We will continue to stand with the people of Algeria. The president offers his sincere condolences to the families who lost loved ones and to the people of Algeria,” Johndroe said. “These criminals and thugs must be stopped, and the United States will continue working with Algeria in close cooperation on counter-terrorism measures.” Two car-bomb attacks in eastern Algeria killed at least 11 people one day after a suicide bomber killed 43 people in the capital.
