The Secretary General of the Organization of Islamic Conference (OIC), Professor Ekmeleddin Ihsanoglu, condemned today in the strongest terms the terrorist attack which targeted on Tuesday ( August 19, 2008 ), a national gendarmerie academy in Boumerdes province, east of the capital Algiers. At least 43 people were killed and dozens injured in the attack. In a press statement issued here today, the Secretary General expressed deep regret that innocent people fell victim to the attack. He conveyed his heartfelt condolences to the families of the victims and extended his wishes to the wounded for a speedy recovery. Prof. Ihsanoglu lashed out against whoever stands behind these crimes, confirming that these acts are incompatible with the sacred values and teachings of Islam. He also called for a determined response against these blood-shedding and barbarous acts and bringing the perpetrators to justice.
