Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez is promising Paraguay's new leftist president a steady supply of fuel to prevent shortages that could cause civil unrest, according to AP. Chavez on Saturday says President Fernando Lugo can count on receiving «all the petroleum Paraguay needs» from Venezuela. He did not give details. He spoke Saturday as the two presidents met with peasants in a poor Paraguayan farmbelt province. Lugo was inaugurated on Friday. Venezuela shipped Paraguay 70 million liters (18.5 million gallons) of diesel last week to stave off shortages.
