Venezuela has sent 70 million liters of diesel fuel as a goodwill gesture to Paraguay's incoming president. Paraguay oil company director Alejandro Takahashi said Thursday in Asuncion that the fuel is a gift from Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez and will be part of the country's strategic reserves. Fernando Lugo, a leftist, will be sworn in August 15, ending 61 years of conservative rule. Paraguay faced shortages of diesel fuel two months ago that limited agricultural production. The country does not produce petroleum and consumers 3 million liters of diesel per day.
