Oil prices rose above US$125 a barrel Tuesday, the Associated Press reported. Light, sweet crude for September delivery added 76 cents to US$125.49 a barrel in electronic trading on the New York Mercantile Exchange by late afternoon in Singapore. The contract rose US$1.47 to settle at US$124.73 a barrel on Monday. In London, September Brent crude gained 73 cents to US$126.57 a barrel on the ICE Futures exchange. In other Nymex trading, heating oil futures rose 0.8 cent to US$3.57 a gallon (3.8 liters) while gasoline prices added 1.11 cents to US$3.0811 a gallon. Natural gas futures added 2.1 cents to US$9.184 per 1,000 cubic feet.
