The Secretary General of the Organization of The Islamic Conference (OIC), Prof. Ekmeleddin Ihsanoglu, has welcomed the prisoner exchange operation conducted between Lebanon and Israel. The exchange led to the liberation of a group of prisoners, notably the ‘Dean of Lebanese prisoner', Samir Kuntar, according to a latest press release of the OIC. The Secretary General expressed personal satisfaction over this fortunate development and extended his congratulations to the Lebanese people on the occasion. He also expressed hope that the dossier of prisoners and detainees in Israeli jails would come to an end. More than 11,000 Palestinians still languish in Israeli prisons. Prof. Ihsanoglu called upon the international community to exert pressure on Israel to release these prisoners and end the suffering of their families.
