A magnitude 6.6 earthquake hit northern and central Japan Saturday morning, but no injuries or damage to houses were reported, the Japan Meteorological Agency said. After the tremor shook northern and central Japanese cities, some train service was suspended, but no damage was reported at nuclear power plants in north-central Fukushima province. The government set up a liaison office at the crisis management center at the prime minister's office, DPA reported. The agency said the quake epicenter was about 120 kilometers under the sea basin off the coast of Fukushima province. A 20-centimetre tsunami wave was reported earlier on the coast of Miyagi and Fukushima provinces. The agency lifted a tsunami warning in the afternoon. Vacationers on the beach were warned to stay out of the water.
