Sakhalinsk, June 28, SPA -- A 5.3 point earthquake rocked the south of the island of Sakhalin last night, Itar-Tass reported. The Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk seismological station said the center of the earth tremor, registered at 04:44 local time (21:44 of June 27 Moscow time), was in the Tatar Strait 30 kilometers northwest of Nevelsk. In that town and also in the village of Gornozavodsk, the Nevelsk District, the strength of the quake measured four points on the Richter scale. There have been no casualties, destruction or risks of tsunami.
