A bus carrying Buddhist pilgrims veered off a mountain road and plunged into a river in western Nepal on Monday, killing at least 17 people, police said. Several more passengers were missing and presumed drowned, according to AP. Local police chief Deepak Kumar Thapa said rescuers have pulled 17 bodies from the Rapti river but they expect to find at least 20 more. «We have not been able to pull the wreckage out of the river and believe there are many bodies still trapped inside,» Thapa told The Associated Press by telephone from the scene of the crash. Thapa said the rescue mission had been suspended for the night but would resume early Tuesday.
