At least 12 workers were killed and 18 trapped after trucks carrying them were buried under a massive landslide in India-administered Kashmir on Thursday, a news report said according to DPA. Huge boulders rolled down and smashed the two trucks carrying the road workers in the Kishtwar district, 215 kilometres north of Jammu, the winter capital of the state, the PTI news agency reported quoting defence sources. The officials told PTI that 12 workers died on the scene while 18 others were trapped as army and police teams rushed to launch rescue operations. Ten bodies were recovered from the spot, the officials added. The landslide which occurred after blasting in the mountainous region hit the labourers who were travelling in the area for road construction work. Senior police official Hemant Lohia said rescue operations by the army, police and locals would continue through Thursday night to recover the bodies and rescue the injured.
