At least 27 people were killed when an overloaded bus skidded off a mountain road in India's Jammu-Kashmir state on Sunday, police said. More than 60 people were traveling in the bus to Udhampur, a garrison town 90 kilometers (55 miles) north of Jammu, the state's winter capital. Thirty-five passengers were injured in the accident and were taken to a nearby hospital, police officer J.S. Jamwal said. Rescue workers recovered 27 bodies, he said. Jamwal said it was raining at the time, although the exact cause of the accident was not immediately known. No other details were available.
