Austrian authorities say an avalanche has buried a street in the Alpine province of Tyrol beneath a meter (3 feet) of snow, and police are searching for possible victims. Officials say the avalanche struck around 10:30 a.m. (0830 GMT) Tuesday and has piled snow over a 100-meter (300-foot) stretch of roadway in the town of Imst, the Associated Press reported. Police are not sure whether any vehicles or people got caught up in the avalanche. Rescue workers are on the scene, poking through the snow mass. Imst is a small town not far from the popular ski resort of Soelden, which hosts top World Cup ski competitions.
