Yemen's Deputy Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research Dr Ali Qasim Ismail says his government is starting a university based on distant learning concept like the Islamabad-based Allama Iqbal Open University (AIOU). He expressed this view during his visit of AOIU. He said that the concept of distant learning, using state of the art communication, was economical and the best way for spreading higher education in remote areas. "The purpose of my visit to AIOU is to see the preparation method of different courses since its establishment, along with opportunities and scope in practical life of those having successfully completed their study, so that such a university could be established, " He said. Ismail thanked the faculties of Arabic, Islamic studies and Vice Chancellor AIOU Prof. Dr Mehmood-ul-Hassan for exchanging their views and extending cooperation and guidance for establishment of an open university in Yemen.
