Ata, March 30, SPA -- A total of 27 people were hospitalized (six of them in an intensive care ward) as a result of a fire in an apartment high-rise in the Kazakh capital Astana, Itar-Tass quoted the Kazakh Ministry for Emergencies as reporting. According to the ministry, a power cable caught fire on the upper floors of the 23-storey apartment house called Moskva late on Saturday evening. The fire flared up at 23.37 local time when there were many people in the building. Rescuers and fire-fighters had to evacuate 126 people. Out of the total, 27 people, including 16 children, were hospitalized. Six evacuees, including two children, are in the intensive care ward, the ministry's press service specified. The fire was localized and then put out in 90 minutes by 67 fire-fighters of the ministry and 16 fire engines.
