The yellow-colored snow that fell in five districts of the Arkhangelsk Region of Russia last Tuesday is not a health hazard, said specialists at four independent laboratories, commissioned to test the samples of suspiciously colored precipitation, sources at the regional authorities told Itar-Tass on Friday. Tests for traces of the highly toxic rocket propellant (heptyl) or other chemicals found nothing. “There is no risk for the population,” the press-service said, adding that tests continued to be made and the final results would be available in the near future. The local weather watching service Sevgidromet has said the unusually colored snow has arrived with a cyclone form the Mediterranean. “Analysis of the weather situation showed that this warm front mixed up with air messes in the steppe regions of the Volgograd Region and Kalmykia, where strong winds and powerful upward air currents colored the clouds with ‘natural dyes' – particles of vegetation, dust and sand,” weather watchers at Sevgidromet said. Yellow-colored snow was observed in five districts of the Arkhangelsk Region and also the Nenets Autonomus Area.
